I just got a new non-skid pad for my K1113-4 Classic Guitar so that it hopefully would stop sliding off my lap when I play. It's one of the new designed pads with the shiny look and the two slits making it easier to install.

However, even though I was very careful to clean the lyrachord surface thoroughly before installing the pad, I find that it comes off rather easily. Has anyone else had this experience and what to do about it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much that can be done about it. Is yours a shiny bowl? I remember the slip guards being more unstable on the shiny bowls than on the textured. Apparently, Ovation didn't have any solutions to the problem either, which I imagine is why they phased out the rubber pads and began roughing the testure in that area of the bowl instead.

FWIW, I don't have any problems with deep, mid, or shallow bowls when I play seated. I just hold 'em close to the gut and they're fine. The only O I've ever owned that I had a hard time playing while seated, believe it or not, was a super-shallow bowl. Super comfortable to play standing (with a strap), but sitting down I couldn't keep it still to save my life!

Not much help I know, but I do wish you good luck finding a solution.

This always puzzles me because I have never had a single problem with Ovations slipping. I think I tend to hold the guitar in a very vertical position (like a wooden box guitar) which may explain it. Try using one of those rubber mesh tool drawer liners. You don't even had to attach it to the guitar. Just lay a piece on your leg when you play. Dave

"rubber mesh tool drawer liners" That what I use and it works great. A piece about 4" X 8" on your thigh and you would think that your Ovation was super glued to your leg.

Thanks Alaskan Fly Guy,

I'm going to Sears Hardware Store ASAP to see if I can find some of this "rubber mesh tool drawer liner." Just tonight, I was playing my Ovation and I couldn't get through the entire practice session because the Ovation sliding off my lap was making me crazy again. As usual, I switched over to my 1974 Jose Ramirez 2a (Cedar/Brazilian Rosewood) to finish the session. I really like the Ovation though...if only I could tame it, and maybe I can now that I have your secret.

Contact the service dept, they probably have some of the original nonskids around.

I find that playing in my speedo works well. The bowl "sticks" much better to bare skin. Dave

PS - Do not follow cwk's advice. Sears tool box drawer liner works about a million times better than the factory standard pads. Sorry Bill.

Get the tool box liner stuff and some Best-Test rubber cement. Best-Test is a paper cement used by paste-up and mechanical artists (before computer graphics) and can be gotten in art supply stores.

Cut a piece to size (with rounded corners). Brush on a coating of rubber cement and let dry (dries quickly). "Paint" an area (a little bigger) on your bowl where you want the pad to stick, and let dry. Apply the pad and burnish with the heel of your hand. The excess glue around the pad will "roll" right off if you rub it with your thumb.

If/when y'wanna remove it, peel the pad off and (again) the glue will "roll" off the bowl when you rub it.

The 3M TreadTape works REAL good, but I think y'might run the risk of taking some bowl paint off if you ever wanted to remove it.

(Personally, . . . NONE of my Ovations have this, and the only guitar that I ever had a hard time hanging on to while sitting has been Q10 . . .)
