I'm hoping some Lennon song writing mojo will rub off on me. yeah, I know keep dreaming. But the amazing thing about these guitars is just how perfect the workmanship is. It's a bargin an $1000. Given the demand is greater than the one he intends to sell, I'd say he bought two with the plan to sell one in order to finance both of them! Viola! A free Ovation.. Not a bad business plan. It worked for Izod, Longeberger, Birkenbock, Ty and Harley Davidson, it should work for Tony Calman! |

Location: NJ | The owner is a good customer from way back. I am not sure why he bought 2 guitars but recently he told me he wanted to sell one. I told him he should not have much trouble doing that.
if you buy the guitar you should not have any problems he is a good guy |

Location: Tennessee | Mine plays just like a familiar old friend. It has become my #1 "go-to" guitar when I pull one off the wall. Forgetting about the collectablility, the mojo, or the rarity in the US ... this is still a great guitar for the money. I hope someone here snags it.
The real payoff will be what these are worth 25 years from now on the 50th anniversary. At least that's what I'm hoping. I just hoping I'm still around to find out. |

Location: Central Florida | Are these actually being marketed by Ovation as "Lennon reissues?" Is there anything on the guitar, or in the papers it comes with, that would designate it as such?
I guess I have a slight issue with the whole marketing angle of this guitar. Let's face it, within the grand scheme of his career, this is not a guitar that is strongly associated with John Lennon.
It just so happens that towards the end of his life someone snapped a few candid pictures of Lennon playing one of these. Years later, one of these photos happens to find it's way onto a CD cover. All of a sudden, the guitar formerly known as the Legend Ltd. is now reincarnated as the John Lennon RI 1651.
I'm not knocking the guitar itself or those that own them. In fact, I'd buy the one on eBay myself if I could afford it right now. But, I'd buy it because I know it's a great guitar. Not because of some contrived Lennon/Beatles tie-in. |

Judging by some of thes posts here I'd say there are at least a dozen that are in this category!

There's nothing wrong, immoral or illegal with this business plan. It's been done for years.
I had a couple young lady cousins who lived in the late 1800s who traveled together, without a chaperone (quite the family scandal) to France once a year. They would buy up all the lace they could in France and sew it all into two dresses. They'd put these dresses on and board the ship. Viola! No duty! Ya see, there is duty to be paid on fabric, but not on the finished clothes on your back! When they got back to the US, they would then 'part it out' by selling to fabric shops that would in turn sell bits and pieces to the locals for a splash of fancy to a otherwise plain dress. They made quite a good living this way until thier morality got the better of them and finally settled down and got married as a 'decent' young woman should. (not my personal take on it. But these two were viewed as not so 'nice' girls for galavantin' around the globe without benefit of proper supervision!) |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I agree the whole "Lennon" aspect of this guitar is somewhat contrived. It IS a very nice guitar and well worth $1000. HOWEVER, just for me personally I would have never bought it if it was just another $1000. guitar. The appeal to ME had a lot to do with the fact that there were only 100 of them made and only 6 available in the US. It was the collector side of me making the purchase, not the musician side (shut up Cliff). It could have been 100 run reissue of Thunderheads, GP's, whatever ... I probably would have felt the same. I'm not a model number guy and name "Legend Limited" seems a bit contrived as well, so the moniker of "John Lennon Reissue" just seems to have stuck and at least to me that's what this guitar will forever be called, even though there is nothing on the guitar that actually says anything about John Lennon, etc. |

It's actually the sound of Weaser reaching into a co-worker's pocket (for money) and making him pull the trigger that he wanted to a couple of months ago, but didn't and has regretted ever since.
He is now in hot pursuit but is not an established eBayer so he's trying to contact said seller to try to work things out.
Now if I can just get him to store it at my place... |

I just wish I had the funds. I'm trying to convince myself that this rash of desirable Ovations since Christmas will carry on until my wife's moratorium ends and the bank account is built back up. |

That is reflected by the number of companies making guitars and the number of different models.
Frankly, I don't give "rat's ass" whether he played it 5 minutes or every day. The Legend Limited (A brace, AAA spruce, ebony fretboard, etc.) is a great playing and sounding guitar. This is a reissue of one of the better guitars that Ovation made. Not sure why but the upgraded Legend (Limited) was only made a couple of years. Basically, a Custom Legend without the carving and abalone.
I paid a lot less than the reissues that Ovation came out with (GC 12-str, Josh White, and Balladeer). From what I project, the GC 12-str reissue would be $1,850 or more. In addition, I have 1 of the 6 in the US and mine was a demo, not FRG.
It is nice to have a little history behind the guitars...who played it, any differences of this from the production models (note the different finish which I don't believe was standard, etc.) As well, I enjoy the information on Linda's involvement in the Custom Legend for Paul.
So, bottom line is a great guitar for a great price. Future? Wouldn't doubt if there will be a good resell. Remember, this was for the Japanese market...and sold for about $3,000 USD. Wouldn't be surprised if a Japanese buyer didn't scoop this one up. |

I had one for a while (see my gallery), and it's one of those I kinda wish I still had.
Boy, I'd love to pull the trigger on this one, but I just don't have the disposable income to swing it right now... DRAT!! It's a great deal for someone, though. |

I was directed to the 1651 Legend Limited. It still sounds great after 25 years, particularly with the stereo split in the pickup. The nutmeg color grows on you. |

Speaking of big men, those catheters were too big to fit in the bridge anyway. I'll just have to save them till I need them for something else. |
