No one should take my advice on cars for kids. The big debate was over getting something newer and more reliable vs. older and cheaper. We argued about whether they'd just trash an old car but take care of a newer one.
Turns out the first one got to drive the bug convertible that I had and rolled it shortly after she started driving. Second car was in several fender-benders and third was totalled by her boyfriend.
Next daughter got to drive my rare BMW Mtechnic convertible and only put one small ding in it. It's for sale so we can get her something that she can trash.

My eldest daughter hates to drive the extra car - an old Chevy Astro van. But it is big, reliable, and has lots of windows. So far she has broken one side view mirror backing out of the garage and her boyfriend broke off the knob on the switch for adjusting the mirrors. Not bad for a year of teenage driving.

I tried to teach her to drive her mom's stick shift turbo PT Cruiser, but she was nervous about starting, especially on hills, so she would rev the engine up before letting the clutch out quickly. She left black stripes all over the neighborhood. We got the car in the garage before the police showed up looking for the kids racing around in the Candy Apple Red PT.

Uh, they went down thataway, officer..
