I'll never understand the bidder mindset on ebay.

Two 1881's currently listed:

1995 NB-2 starting at $899, no bids after a week, just 20 hours left. Looks to be in good or better condition with the Optima preamp but not the original case.

1989(??) NB-5 just listed a couple hours ago and at $1325 after just a couple hours. I emailed the seller, has no idea what she's selling. Listed as OP-X preamp?
Yes, the NB-5 looks to be in great shape and I'd like to have another one for the ship, but I'm bailing out of it at $1300 mark.

I have a hunch this one's gonna get fugly :(

-edit- If you've never had a chance to play one of these 1881's, your missing out. It has the feel of a really fast electric and it just screams PLAY ME !

Aloha_Tim,

What is the difference between the NB-2 and NB-5 other than the color? Is $899 a good price for the NB-2? Please let me know, thanks.

Henry

Only the color, otherwise they are identical.
I got my 1881 in December for $910 in good but used condition. I bought my 1885 new for $2,300 in 1995.

I think I'll put in a bid for it. Thanks.

HoHo, I have a beautiful mint 1881 for sale. Check out my OFC Gallery and go to the "For Sale" section. Pics and info are all there.

There's no accounting for taste or logic. I listed a guitar on ebay once with a reserve of $1000. and free shipping. It didn't hit the reserve, I think high bid was $700. or something like that. I relisted it with NO reserve and took away the free shipping. The auction ended at $1175. + shipping. Go figure. Dave

Put a bid in; got sniped by HoHo, then he got sniped. Life goes on. Adamas-less.

I compliment you for throwing the bid out there 5 minutes before closing. It sucks to be the one with your neck across the chop'n block during that last 30 seconds...no worries, another one will happen along, there's always Stephent28's ;)

Mitzdawg,

That was you!!! Well, we both got beat. Wonder if an OFC member got it.

My better half gave the go-ahead for GAS relief, and we stretched and bet the whole available enchilada. I was sweating bullets.

The other Adamas' on the bay have no fret markers and I really need them, so I have to rule them out. Or buy white out.

While we wait, the piggy bank gets fatter, so Stephen28's may not be out of reach in the near future.

My 1597 has custom fret inlays. They really help.

Absolutely jonesing over the cobalt blue Adamas up there but it needs the white-out treatment in order to be more than an ornament.

Kinda hard to explain the GAS relief if you can't play it once you've bought it.

Do I understand that you can have inlays installed? Reasonably?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the W597 & 1597 have the fret dots on the upper side of the fingerboard?
How many more markers do you need to play?

The W597 & 1597 have fret dots on the upper side of the fingerboard only but not on the fingerboard itself. The fingerboard looks rather "naked" for my taste. Fret inlays can be added if you find a local luthier who has experience doing this. Cost can be anywhere from $50 for simple dots to $hundreds for fancier designs.

I need fret markers that reach up, grab my fingers, and place them in the proper position.

I've just learned to look at the face of the fingerboard when I play. Bad habit? But I'm wary of spending that much only to find I can't play it unless the metronone is set to "4" so I can count fret wire.
