My head is spinning! And Fillhixx's post was too funny.

My mind is absorbing all this and I may need a day or tow to let it settle.

I'm looking at Mitch's 1862, or a new s771, or maybe (big maybe) a new 1778T

hopefully by the end of the week I'll have landed on something... after all I've got callouss on my finger-tips to start building up!

Way OT, sorry but:
On the value of a Wife:
Some time ago I heard the story of “five canoe Larry”. That was the translation of the name. Originally it was some Pacific island story I believe.

Larry was looking for a wife and the custom was to visit the local islands and talk to the Chief or Big Kahuna. A reasonable wife cost one full canoe of goods and trinkets. An Exceptional wife was worth two canoes. Beauty, grace and royal family connections might require three canoes.

Larry comes to this one island where the Kahuna has married off all of his daughters except for one, Jane. Jane is sure that she is destined for Old Maidendom and her worth is far less than a basket of fish and since her father would be without help if she left he will demand too high of a price. Frowning and disheartened she feels worthless and the other girls take every chance they can to remind her of her destiny and elevate themselves.

Ol’ Larry comes in to barter with the Kahuna. Kahuna presents Jane. Larry signals for five canoes to be brought to shore. They are fully laden and sit low in the water. Impressive to behold.

The chief marries them at once and they go off to the “Newlywed Hut” to spend a month. During this time all the men are joking about “Five Canoe Larry” the wizard of wall street! If someone offers a lopsided trade for something they would hear “I’m no five canoe Larry get out of here!”

The ladies, on the other hand, took a different view! Several former Classmates repented of their former caddy behavior and decided to become servants of Jane because they would never find a husband that would give five canoes for them! It was better to be in the household of five Canoe Larry than anywhere else!

Jane?
She was so honored and so happy to be free of her Father and now was held in reverence by all the maidens and wives. She set her mind and heart on living up to the price paid for her. She became exactly that, a wife worth five canoes! She grew in grace and wisdom and under her hand her Husband’s estate grew and prospered!

To this day men will scoff and women will get tears in their eyes when they hear the name of “Five Canoe Larry”!
