Do the guitar designers calculate the fret spacings for specific guages of strings? On my electric I have found that the lighter guage strings have pretty marginal to poor intonation, especially the first two frets. Going to a different guage makes a big difference. The bridge is adjustable for intonation, but the lighter strings still sucked and were difficult to intonate in the first place.

I may yet eNut it or get a shelf nut. Paying to Buzz Feitenize it isn't worth the cost on an inexpensive hobby guitar.

...could be that light gauge are more easily distorted or "stretched" by fretting.

...and yes, luthiers calculate nut cuts for string gauge

Check out Dan Erwine's Guitar Maintenance/Repair Guide.

I have eNuts on several of my guitars and they work great. Monte is a great guy and easy to work with.

Stephent28, do you know if Monte has black nuts? (never thought I'd ever write that....)

Have you tried the metal enuts? If I can't get a black one, I'd just go with the metal one, although it looks like it adds a lot of distance to the nut.

Never met the man face to face but nut color never came up. He is just a very nice guy that gives 200% support for a $15 item.

All the enuts I have are metal. The instructions are pretty simple to follow and it is easy to file them down for a perfect fit.

I must confess I did order a couple extras for my early attempts just in case I screwed up.

I have some of them removeable and some that I glued down. Both work very well when combined with his offsets.

Flysig, I wrote a pretty detailed review on harmony central. I also believe 3-4 others have since added their own opinions. I will look for the link to post.
