Ok so what's up with this?
At Lost/Art there is a 2001 with a center sound hole. But in this thread Tim Chapman is seen sitting with a 2001 with multi hole epaulets.

So? did they make both?

I've seen photographic evidence that both Tim and Al suffer from occasional insanity... perhaps neither guitar exists. Or one of them could be lying. Or they could both be lying.

Of course, I've also seen insane behaviour demonstrated by certain Factory personnel. It might not take too much to confuse them into making both tops.

Tim, I stand corrected. Change the occasional to chronic.

Funny that Al still has that roundhole (#444) listed on his site. I noticed it on StandingO's serial number registry as being owned by 'ecarbffej' and doing some searches here, looks like OFC member "jon van gilder" bought it from Al in November '04, and sold it to ecarbffej in January '05.

The '01's sound and look great, pick one up if you get the chance!

Mine is a multihole. Unfortunately it is off at the mothership for repair/upgrades... before pic:

heh heh, understood. think of it as a nice historical record until the time comes to update it. :) I'd offer to help out with my passable HTML skillz, but I can't keep up with my own Honey-Do list as it is.

I actually baught it at a Music Store I was working Part Time at. Jon traded the 2001 in on a "Jazz" guitar, or so the story goes. The saleman knew I was looking at an Ovation and told me about this one. I waked in, played it, and said,"Mine". I've tried to find out how many Round Holes were made. I know that a total of 696 were made of the 2001. Maybe someone can ask on the tour? Please!
I no longer work at that Music store, but when I left last October they had another 2001 round hole , in a case in the backroom. It needed some work. The bridge was pulling away from the sound board and it had several cracks(finish),but still played nice.

Jeff, thanks for the clarification.. it's always interesting to hear the history of people's guitars and how/why they change hands over the years.

The bridge pulled on mine as well -- taking part of the soundboard with it -- hence the trip to Connecticut.

I saw a post from Al a while back recommending the Redwoods be humidified and detuned when not in use.. have you been doing that with yours?

It's tuned down a whole step, as for humidify, well living in the humid midwest! It stays in the case in winter away from any heating vents. In the summer it is in air conditioning for the most part. I probally play it to much to mess with a sound hole humidifier. Some guys I play with around here have Taylor's and I must say that everytime I show up they want to play my 2001. Nice feeling!
I even have a feedback buster and am louder then they are unplugged, Cool!

I wonder if the redwood is so soft that it doesn't hold the bridge well.
