Hey, I just joined this board after reading through a lot of posts.
First, I'd like to say that I do not currently own an Ovation, but am going to buy one soon.
I'm leaning towards a Legend or Balladeer.
I've been playing guitar for a few years now, but am not amazing. I do enjoy myself!
Probably my favorite guitar player/songwriter is Robyn Hitchcock, though I listen to all types of music.
I played a low end martin for a few years, but am ready for an ovation. One of my best friend has one, and I've always known they're great guitars.
I'm a student, so I don't have a lot of money to spend, though I know I'll regret buying a cheap Ovation to start off with. I'm thinking of perhaps going with some payment monthly payment plan to make it easier.
I live in Chicago but am moving to Berkeley in a few months for school. I'm glad to be here and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Don't buy new. A lot of older USA made Ovations can be had for a song on eBay. Many of these had higher quality woods(they no longer have the 'hand selected spruce' option), that are now aged nicely and play and sound fantastic. If you have a paypal account attached to a credit card, you can get a good guitar at a low price and pay it off a little at a time.

Hello Azeem, Welcome to the board. I'm fairly new also and these folks have a ton of knowledge. As I was told, you are in the right place. Good luck in your search.

If you're looking for a Legend, you're on the right track!

I'd look for something early to mid 90's, with an OP-24 or Optima preamp (if you're looking to amp it), and your best sound will be a deeper bowl. There's frequently a few popping up on ebay.

Welcome to the family! (albeit dysfunctional...)

Thanks for all help and warm welcomes!
I am thinking of getting a used baladeer, since the new are too expensive for me.
The one on ebay looks good!
So most people would say buying one from the 70s or so is a good idea? If it's cheaper, sounds better and has nicer material, I don't see why I would go with a new one. Are there any advantages to buying new?
Yes, I feel like I'm engaged and about to fully join the family! ;)
