Hi everyone,

short but sweet...
I had to leave after the tour, before the real zaniness begins afterward. But once again, the mothership was as cool as always. Not as many big surprises as last year, but the giveaway llama was a cutie.
The second time on actual tour of how the guitars are built, has given me an even greater appreciation of just how handbuilt these guitars are. Yes, there are cnc machines to help, but human hands are all over every guitar made. (the hamer electrics are even more labor intensive).

I have been coming over to the realization that the VIP preamp is really fantastic, but Matt Smiths demonstration of the preamp, just put all doubt to the wind.

So seeing guitars actually being built was a high point. (yes, they are actually building 47RI's, I saw about three finished, and another half dozen in process). But, Meeting old friends and new friends was just as cool. (Next year i am there for the duration..). I still can't believe the lobster and kegs of microbrew for lunch, that was sweet... :D :p :D

if you have not ever been on the tour, really, try and make it...you know, just plug in...peace for a few days at least, mike

Did anyone happen to hear if/when the VIP would be making its way down the line? I'm interested in a Custom Legend LX contour bowl with the VIP. I'm hoping this will be next in line to get the VIP. Just wondering when that might be.

I don't think the next guitar to get VIP was discussed, but it's logical it would be one of the higher end ones, like a CLLXCB.

By the way, we saw a proto of what "might" be the 2007 Collector. A beautiful bearclaw topped custom elite with lots of bling, VIP, contour bowl and really cool mono inlaid vainy epaulets.

Dave

PS - MtnBikerFred won the givaway. A BEAUTIFUL contour bowl custom elite.

I am 100% serious. Fred won the guitar. I think everyone who knows him has the same response as you.

I'd like to post all kinds of things about what we saw, did, talked about ... but quite honestly the 47 Reissue just overshadows everything else. It is THAT good. Just stunningly better than any other guitar in the building. Moody nailed the quote and I agree - I would sell ALL my other Ovations to own this one. According to Frank there will be 75 of them built and that's all. I think you can consider that the official word.

I know. I know. ISBT!

Wifey and I were planning to attend, but we had to back out. We were going to stay in Torrington and make a weekend out of it, but it was not to be (rough month, long story!).

Anyway, I was wondering if they mentioned their future plans for the LX and Traditional models. My guess is the Traditionals will be phased out for Legend/Elite on up, and maybe kept on the Balladeer/Elite Standard only. Right now, there is some price overlap that's kind of confusing. For instance, I think a Traditional Legend is now slightly cheaper than a Balladeer LX. Also, are there any new LX models coming out (maybe a 6751LX)?

Congrats to all those who attended, especially MtnBikerFred who won the raffle. I won the first one in 2003, hence the nickname "Lucky #13".

Special thanks to Al and Miles and everyone at Ovation and Hamer for putting this together once again.

They can phase the Traditionals out now....I've never seen one in a shop. They might as well not exist, except as custom orders.

Glad you all had a good time!

TonyPD, there ALREADY IS a 6751LX 12-string....I've played two at different Guitar Centers. It's arrived within the last two months. Sounds WONDERFUL.

The VIP is now available as an upgrade on the custom side. $480.00 option. The Op-Studio is now standard in the Customs, and available as a drop in replacement on the LX series...the VIP worsk as a drop in for LX as well, but getting you r hands on one might be a problem :)

Gregory, this is very confusing. Exactly for which models of guitars has the VIP been programmed for?

Interesting.

The factory is sending me a new "can" and stuff to go with my C2078LX (that currently has an OP-Pro in it) for the OP-Pro Studio, because IT'S NOT A DROP IN for the OP-Pro!! The VIP and OP-Pro Studio are indeed unigue. As for the VIP being a drop in for LX models, there are only "maps" for the 1680,2080, and '06 Koa-lectors edition. putting the VIP in anything else would be a big mistake.

What Fred said.

If you order a contour bowl, you will get the OpPro Studio.

You don't want a VIP until they make the maps (custom sounds) specifically for your model of guitar.

I've been to three OFC gatherings. Twice, people have traveled with me. Both of those people walked away with new guitars...

I am now taking applications for new friends and travel companions for next year. All females who can provide resumes and photos will be happily considered.

Third time is the charm, Moody - bring someone next year and you'll walk away with it.

Last year Rick H. stated that the OP Studio was a drop-in replacement for the Pro - I have it on tape. BUT... Rick is an MP. People make mistakes. As long as you drop in a new can first, everything's fine.

I have it on good authority the VIP is NOT available as after market. The Studio will be made available as supplies allow.
