I would assume that these are not going to be available for too long a period of time. I just had to try one and it will be my first slothead 12. Anyone out there that can tell me what to expect?

It sounds absolutely wonderful, but it is 12-frets-to-the-body, which means if you are used to 14, the neck feels a bit "short". Also, you're in for a "wonderful" experience changing strings on a slothead 12-string. Takes me around 4 hours from start to finish(takes me 30 minutes on a regular 6-string). Roger

I should have it by the middle of next week. I played one other 12-fret model, and I agree that the neck felt "short". Hope I can adjust to it. I feel compelled to check out this instrument. Once they finish the model run (when might that be?), I do not want to have to rely on the secondary market to secure one. Will post again once it is in my hands....

It sounds like no other 12-string I've ever played. It's just that the short neck and string-changing difficulty sours an otherwise sweet guitar for me, personally, and I wanted you to at least be aware of those "features". Best of luck with your 1618. I suppose if I changed strings on it more, I'd get it down to a couple of hours.... :D Roger

Joined: February 2004 Posts: 1634 Location: Warren,Pa. | I have a '79 Pacemaker, and I have to say changing the strings is a therapeutic pleasure for me. When a 12 string slothead is strung up properly...lots of string on the posts, wound toward the outside...I think the finished product is a work of art. I've had people who know nothing about guitars stare and make flattering comments about the headstock. I must say I do use Elixers so I do go a lot longer between changes, but this is all part of owning an extraordinary guitar. Enjoy your amazing guitar. John <>{

Yes, I completely agree about the headstock, it is a work of art. What takes some of the time changing strings is carefully minding the string ends to not scratch the inside of the slots. Roger

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 110 Location: Peoria, Illinois | I will post a review of this guitar soon. I am just getting to play it after a string change and some adjustments. So far, I like it a lot. A few "issues" I will discuss in the review. Now I can appreciate why a 12-string slot head string change can be a major task. My next one will go a lot easier.
