The low battery indicator started blinking yesterday so I went and got a new battery; the only thing that would show when I turned the tuner on was a G with the upper indicator flashing. I was a bit surprised as the battery in guitar when I got it was a duracell and didn't think it should have gone flat this quickly; but thought maybe the guitar has been sitting around a fair while before I bought it.
So I went and changed the battery, put the unit back in guitar and found it was still doing the same thing.
Went through the battery installation again; same result and the battery low flash is happening again.
I'm starting to think; how do I get warranty on this guitar given I bought in the US. So go to Ovation site and don't immediately find any reassuring spaces for OS purchasers. Thinking I'm going to have to send the unit back, or maybe the whole guitar (rising sense of aprehension)
Put a jack in the outlet to see if it would run the amp; no amp input.
I had taken a shim out of the bridge on Saturday to lower the action, and was confident that I had not pulled the wire leading out of the bridge nut base. However thought I would check it all.
Took the Op Pro out and looked inside guitar to check if all was wired okay. Took out the input and output jacks from the Op Pro case that is mounted in the guitar side and put them back in. Checked the guitar output jack function by seeing if the lead jacked in okay; everything seemed okay tat the start and when I'd finished plugging and unplugging. Reluctant to take bridge apart to check hear so. Put it all together again.
Took battery out and replaced it yet again.
Put the Op Pro back in and voila it all works.
I do intend to write to Ovation to check with them. But in any case has anyone come across this strange behaviour behaviour before? |

The tuner still works and it hooks up to the amp okay. It stopped when I took battery out/in. |

Location: Townsville, Australia | Amazing I hadn't thought of that, the obvious; new 4 pack of Duracell and I think they are all stale DUUUH
Don't have a voltmeter but as a kid I recall that a new 9V battery zap the tongue these just tingle
I guess 9v aren't used in many consumer products and they could have sat on the shelf

Location: Phoenix, AZ | It's not just 9 volts. I've had bad packs of AA and AAA, all bought from Home Depot where the turn around time couldn't have been more than a month or two with batteries that have expiration dates three or more years down the road. Now, if I get a bad battery, I just return the whole pack. |

Location: Orange County, California | Ever wonder what the deal is with 9v's? Aren't they alway going dead for no reason? Inside of many Alkyline 9v (IEC6LR61) there are a bunch of little 1.5V "AAAA" batteries conntected together. If just one of the "cells" is bad, the whole thing dies. If one of the 7 connections between the cells or the contacts is even slighty bad, it'll bring the voltage down on the whole thing under load, which explains why they sometimes seem to "come back" if you take them out (remove the load) for awhile. |
