Does anyone know of an arrangement of "Not What My Hands Have Done" that has a chorus that begins "These guilty hands I raise, filthy rags are all I bring..."

I heard this at a local church a while back, but can't find a recording or mention of this version anywhere on the 'net. I found the Indelible Grace version that's in a minor key... that's not it. I got my nephew to teach it to me, but would like to hear an original.

Thanks, Jas.

Captain,

I'm checking with my music director at church.

In the mean time if you get anything, please let me know. It sounds like a song I might like to learn.

I saw your post on the other forum and was going to reply to you sooner. Sorry.

Triple G, I performed it at church last Wednesday. I'll try to get an mp3 and chords for you.

It is a great song, and easy.

Will do my best. I've just requested a recording, but recordings from our church's soundboard are usually unlistenable. If it's too terrible, I'll record one, if you don't use it for blackmail.

I picked up a tape last night, and as I suspected, the guitar was a mess of midtone, and the vocals were not on the recording. Sheesh, my church should not even bother taping anything before the sermon.

Anyway, I'll try to scratch together a bare bones recording in my garage and send it as soon as I can.

I did make a good lead sheet, and I'll send that too.

Hey guys...can I get added to the list. Always looking for new stuff for Worship. Since we started our small fellowship about a year ago, I have brought 70 "new" songs into our book that have to be typed up, taught and played enough so that folks can become familiar enough to worship.

The pastors wife the other day said "just seems like we never do any new songs". When I gave her the number she said "no way". Showed her the book and she says "oh.....".

Lot of work really, but love doing it. However I have gotten lazy (although just wrote and introduced one of my own this week) and need to grab some more stuff.

Will do, JD. It may be just me and a tape recorder, but your finished product will sparkle no doubt.

Lefty, I didn't get your email. I sent one and maybe you didn't get it, either?

"The pastors wife the other day said "just seems like we never do any new songs". When I gave her the number she said "no way". Showed her the book and she says "oh....."." ...

I spent the last two years compiling new songs and renewing a lot of the old ones. I even went back and snagged some of the old songs from the 70's and 80's and made new versions of them. Some members on the team really liked them and asked who rote a lot of the "new" songs. I also have been revamping some of the really good hymns. Altogether we now have over 270 songs. I have put them all on a database and am trying to make a spreadsheet that will allow me to bring them up by subject, key, speed, type, etc., and also link them to copies of the actual sheet music, so each week I can instantly access them as I choose them.

The problem I now have is that since we went to one combined service, many of the songs are brand new to part of the congregation, and I have to put the brakes on and introduce the songs all over again. I'll usually do one new song for a month before bringing in a new one. That's a little frustrating though, since there are so many new ones coming out. Sometimes I'd like to just have an all-day worship set, every week! :)

I just wanted to add the link to the indelible grace version of that song:

Check the lead sheet and "demo mp3".

Thanks. I have that one, and I enjoy Igrace. That version, for me, doesn't work as a worship number, though. It's fine as a performance song.

Also, that link gives you all the verses. I chopped mine to my 3 faves.

Update: I did find the person who wrote this song. It's Karl Digerness, a worship minister at a church in San Fran. He recorded it on a demo of hymns and it's never been registered with CCLI. I got a nice email from him. Case closed.

Oh Captain, my Captain: Sounds like your sound guy needs a lesson. Most times, these volunteers are well meaning, but know little more than where the on-off switch is and how to adjust the pulpit volume. Maybe the church's women's or men's group or the church itself would be willing to finance in whole or in part some schooling for a couple sound guys at your local community college or university. Then you will have volunteers who know what they are doing.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. It's rough, I'm tellin' ya. I'm working on putting a new praise band together now, and I'm planning to mix it all on stage and send one cable to the snake. Then all they have to do is move the volume up and down.

Tommy, that's really not a bad suggestion. Thanks.

We do all our mixing on "stage". We can never be sure there will be a sound guy available.
