I have no freaking idea what this is. Some 10 string ukulele freakshow. But the bowl is made out of a f@cking Armadillo! Complete with hair!

That's a Charango. South American, from Peru and Bolivia. Traditionally made from Armadillo shells but now usually made from wood. The Armadillo is getting close to being endangered in some parts of South America, mostly due to Peruvians scooping their guts out and making charangos, so it's now only legal to make charangos out of roadkill. A friend of mine in Austin has a guitar made from a huge armadillo shell, sounds pretty damn good.

Dave, please, please don't do this. It would be a new and unrecoverable low.

Great! Just what I need. Tire tracks on my charango!

Actually, we're overrun with armadillos in Texas, in fact we've got some big enough on our place to repair the chipped paint on my 1537.

:D

DAMN. I bid on it. But then they guy pulled the auction. Must have sold it privately. Would have been a cool addiction, errr I mean addition, to the collection. Oh Well. Dave

Amadillo Charango

It has crawled back on the road to Ebay.

It has some OFC UFO action on as well.

Sounds like a "stump the band" kind of thing. I can just picture Doc Severinson trying to sing it.

Once you're done making the instrument, how can they tell if it's roadkill or not?
