Went last night to Benders Tavern, a small intimate showroom that holds about 350 people to see the SOUND OF URCHIN. Now they were incredible.....everything I was hoping for and I got to visit with a couple of the members before and after the show. They were friendly, happy to talk, and overall great guys. When I went to the show, I did not realise that there was a 2nd act....SLIM CESSNA'S AUTO CLUB. Now I have heard of SCAC for years because they are a Boulder based group that has had some national success but I knew nothing about their music. Well, the show starts out with a heavy drum beat....what sounds to be wailing feedback on the guitar....band dressed all in black...and then I realize IT IS BANJOS!   At times they had 3 banjos goin on stage with a standup bass and drums. This music was either.. heavy rock rockabilly cosmic blue "death" grass something else the attack on my senses (with at time 3 banjos playing power chords, ripping leads, and power pickin) almost overloaded my sensory nerves. Now, I haven't a clue what their CD's sound like, but in all seriousness, these guys KICKED MAJOR ASS! I have never seen nor experienced anything quite like it but I can assure you it was great fun and very very very good. I will never look at banjos again the same way. Now excuse me while I go wash out my mouth with soap for saying anything nice about banjos and then I will kill myself. ;)

Hopefully he will recover, but I've heard of people becoming addicted at the "first hit", which ususally leads to involvment in some sort of banjo cult... (nothing like the OFC :D ) Guys, We need prepare to do a full intervention :D :p :D :p

Excellent wordage, sir! JB

Jeff's clip is pretty close to how they sound live....just turn it up very loud and imagine a bunch of guys dressed in black jumping all over the stage looking like they are having epileptic fits.

The last time Jeanette and I were out there t'visit her Mom, we went out bar-hoppin' in town one night, and the name sounds vaguely familiar . . . Is this place a brew pub?? (there's a LOT of em, I know . . .) The place I'm thinking of had a "stage" area, but it was a weeknight and no one was playing . . .
