Location: Kaaawa, Hawaii | I had recently contacted the Ovation factory to inquire if there were planning to re-issue a 12-string model of the re-leased Adamas I. They notified me that the 12-string could be ordered from my local dealer as a custom order from the factory. I was wondering if anyone in this forum has attempted to do the same. The dealer I went to here in Hawaii qouted me a price of $2200.00 w/ case. Which is what they cost about 15 years ago! So, I went to the dealer to send my order in, but the models that they qouted were the newer, cutaway models. I specified the 1687 model and they kinda changed their tune. That qoute they gave me sounded to good to be true and probably was. I am a great fan of that particular instrument (12 string Adamas I)and I am wondering if any of you feel the same? Or if anyone you know is odering this model guitar from Ovation/Adamas. Aloha!!!!!!!!!!!Doug Kekona. |

You should look up AlohaTim. I think he's on the big island and I know he has an old adamas 12er.
Also, if you're looking for the straight poop on special orders, contact Alpep of LostArt/Vintage. |

The 1687/1688 Adamas 12 strings are as good as it gets. Tony C might have a line on a used one if you are interested. I think he might have adopted one of Choates??? |

Location: SoCal | Chris Choate is well experienced in working with the factory - especially the Adamas I 1688. I have a 1688-8 Adamas I with OP/50 and XLR.
I would say that they are a little over $2,500 if you were going to order one. Chris may have an extra one or two sitting around that he had made. Fortunately, I recently got a 1993 Adamas II (-8) 12-string w/OP-24.
I would definitely say the textured top Adamas is the # 1 12-string. As to wood top, the 1658 or 6759 Custom Legends are the finest wood top that I have played. |
