I just received the Tacoma Thunderchief that I told you all I ordered. After I had bought into all the hype and reviews about it being the loudest acoustic bass on the market, well guess what? ... I put it face to face with my Celebrity Deluxe Natural Acoustic and I couldn't hear any difference in volume. And the Ovation even sounded better! So much for the idea of getting an acceptable unplugged acoustic volume.(and forget it! I'm NOT buying one of those big Mexican Mariachi bass guitars! they only have a ten inch fretboard.)

Does anyone have a recommendation for a small bass amp that can be used to play with an unplugged guitar group? Any GOOD battery powered units? (frustrationfrustrationfrustration)

I have the Roland min-cube guitar amp which is excellent for the size and money... I'm pretty sure they make an equivalent bass amp.

Pignose makes a battery-powered one for bass and keyboard - the Pignose Hog-30 . 30 watts, built in rechargable battery, 28 lbs, $160. Haven't tried it but the price seems reasonable.

With a name like Pignose, it has to be good!

I have a Roland Micro-Cube(can run on AA's) for my strat and the friggin' thing is amazing for its size. If they make a bass model, i bet it's good.

How much do you want to spend? Without knowing more, you'll probably be happy with the pignose.

I've spent some time on line researching the amp options. I haven't been able to find ANY amp, other than that 30 watt Pignose that has its own battery supply. I spoke with a friend who told me it will go for at least a solid hour on the battery, and that it recharges quickly. And at the $160 price tag, that will leave me a good chunk of change from the refund of the bass I'll receive. Who knows? maybe I can save up for an Adamas I purchase? Or like I said earlier, perhaps a used USA-made deep bowl acoustic bass will show up on the sale block ;)

They don't make a microcube for bass. Too bad, I've got one too, the thing rocks. You can put a guitar strap on it and carry it around and play Free Bird. Annoys the heck out of people.

Well, you've probably got enough room in there...

In Virginia, having a pignose in your pants may be a good thing.

I haven't used one myself, but they have a good reputation.

Battery operated P.A.
