I am having problems with my Ovation Elite. It either doesn't have any sound when plugged in our it pops andcracks a bunch. I took it apart thinking it needed to be resoldered. No problem. Well it goes to a little circuit board and connections of the plug seem fine. I cleaned the contacts and it didn't make a difference. So the second time I checked it out it seems to be the small plug that goes into the circuit board from the preamp is the culprit. The circuit board has 3 samll post that the plug connects to. Seems to not be making good contact. Does anybody have a good fix for this? Debating of a few ideas I have. Would hate to have to take it somewhere to get it fixed. But I need it doen. I am playing my Martin in its place and I like the Martin, but it isn't my Elite, which I love. Any help? Bill

How did you diagnose that it is that connector? Also, a plain rubber eraser can do a good job of cleaning oxidation and grime off of connectors, but if you aren't already aware of it, ESD, electro-static discharge can ruin electronics. Before you mess around much you have to be careful not to zap the CMOS circuitry.

Wiggled the 1.4" jack and made no difference. Wiggle the plug suddenly it would work but make all kinds of popping and cracking noise.

What you describe is a pretty textbook bad connection with the snap crackle pop, which is a likely suspect in any electronic failure. The problem could be at either end of the connector and chances are that it only affects one of the three conductors. It could be that the wire has a bad connection or is broken at the attachment to the female side. I've seen multi-strand wires that get overcrimped or just wiggled around too much and the wires crack where you can't see them. The other problem could be a solder joint on one of the posts onto the circuit board. If you can wiggle one wire at a time, or press on a post with a non-conductor like a wooden toothpick, you might find the culprit. It actually seems unlikely to me that it is a loose female side of the connector unless it has been plugged and unplugged too many times. (some perv on this forum is gonna run with that one I'm sure :) )

I thought boy something doesn't sound right, plus their was a ton of dust inside. Cleaned all dust out, found that the connector the little one, while it looked like it was connected good was in actuality just partially engaged. So, I pushed it a little harder and BAM she go IN more. Now everything GOOD. So make sure you PUSH real hard. to ensure full contact. Sounds too simple but it is true.

I was able to take each wire out of the plug and rubbed it a little to clean it then I was able to snug up the plugs connections. Seems to have fixed. Will see how it holds up. I thought I had it fixed before, but after transporting it to church it acted up again. So I will see tonight or tomorrow.
