Has anyone installed a preamp in a strictly acoustic Ovation? (like changing a 1115 to a 1615) What is the best way to go about it. (and, no, I don't want to sell the 1115 and buy a 1615) I know the bridge is different, as it doesn't have the pickup, but I was wondering if it is a can of worms to change it over. I would like to keep it Ovation, as in an OP24 or such, and not go with an after market clamp in system.

I've done tons of conversions like that. Mostly converting old single knob or Vol/tone FET3's to later pre's. It's not difficult. On an acoustic-olny model the trickiest part is routing the bridge to take an OPP. If you don't want to go that far you could use on Ovation Thinline or an aftermarket undersaddle such as a Baggs or Fishman.

Check out K&K Pickups as well. My 1624 had the bridge replaced with an acoustic bridge, so I installed one of these. Transducer technology, multiple trnasducers actually mount right to the soundboard under the bridge.
I'm pretty happy with how mine turned out.

As it was on my 1624 (nylon) I went with the Pure Classic.

Actually, it was fun. We were on a drive-around-Oregon vacation and so were down in Coos Bay. I happened to know K&K is down there, so we hunted them out - not easy, they don't do over the counter retail, and are not in the best part of town, so they don't really want to be found.
But as we found them, the owner and his wife were incredibly gracious, and gave us a tour of the entire place. They do pretty much everything on site, including fabricating the steel boxes for thier preamps from rolled steel. They make thier own components as well, even the preamp boards, right there. Very cool, very nice people.

don't dismiss the Fishman RareEarth line of soundhole pick-ups. They can be easily installed (permanently) and sound VERY good.

I've got the "Blend", humbucker w/ condenser bridge mic, sounds beautiful in my 1115.
