I told him I have always counted my other doubleneck as 1 guitar. Before now I had 56 guitars(32 guitars and 24 basses). If I call the doublenecks 2 guitars, I will have 59(33 guitars and 26 basses). Now the hardest part. My next one will also be a douleneck (bass and guitar) If I call the doublenecks 1 guitar, I will have 58(33 guitars and 26 basses which of course adds up to 59). This is just confusing me. Bill

But I'm selling the Adamas, so I'll be down to four. And really, the Matrix I keep around because I don't have the heart to throw it in the trash (but I never play it). Grandma's guitar is a sentimental piece, but not really a player. I keep it out and plink out a tune or two once in a while. What part of Indiana are you from. I was born in Evansville. Great town.

My friends laugh at the amount of guitars I have laying around the house. I want 3 more to complete the collection - an acoustic bass, a 12 string and an electric (Strat or Les Paul) If I achieve my goal, you'll still have FIFTY guitars more than me. How the F%@& do you afford them all? How the F%@& do you play them all? You're either not married, or filthy rich, or both. Just ignore my ramblings. I'm as jealous as F%@&

Joined: May 2004 Posts: 383 Location: Indiana | muzza, Affording them realy hasn't been that much of a problem. It has just been very time consuming (42 years). I don't have any bad habits any more (quit drinking 14 years ago).I'm not married (that helps) and I am definitely not rich. Although I have to admit I do have a rather nice collection, I donnot concider myself a collector. I have made some great deals over the years. If I buy a guitar and don't like it (wheather it has value as a collectable or not) I most likely will not keep it.I can actually blame/thank this group for some of my guitars. When I joined this group I believe I only had 2 or 3 O's. Now I have 12. miles, Thanks for piping in. I have always known that there are several here with many more guitars than I have. I am in aw of several of the other collections. Some have more Ovations than I have of all brands. Bill

Joined: April 2004 Posts: 13303 Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | I had about 45 and now I am down to 20. [12 acoustics......(6 woodtop/1 is a 12 string) & 6 Adamaii (4 regular/1 is a 12 string and the twin 2080 baritones 6 and 12 string) and 8 electrics......(6 regular/plus one 12 string & one doubleneck)]. I still want to move out about 5-6 more....probably 3 electrics and 2 or 3 acoustics. I also have a mandocello, a mandolin, and a uke. I am much happier with the smaller collection, almost all of them get attention they deserve and the maintenance is greatly reduced. I think I know which electrics I am going to part with but trying to pare down the remaining 2-3 acoustics is gonna be really tough.

Joined: January 2006 Posts: 5881 Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I have 25 plus three more in the pipeline, and a wish list of maybe 10 more that will likely be found and purchased over the next two or three years. Although all but one (it is built into a neon sign) are playable and get tuned and played for a few minutes every few months, I actually only play six with any regularity. However, playing the guitars is only part of the enjoyment. All of these guitars are displayed in the open on the walls in my bandroom. I don't keep any hidden in their cases. When I run out of room (including a display in my office), then I will quit adding to the collection. Call me weird, but I love looking at them. They're art. The room brings me comfort. I prefer it over watching television, particularly when I am by myself. My bandroom is my sanctuary. It makes me forget everything else and just think guitars and music. There is really very little cost in the upkeep, and the guitars and other junk in the room are not likely to depreciate in the years to come. As hobbies go, this one isn't too bad. I go down there, start playing, and before I know it two hours have passed. Then the wife comes home and its back to other chores and reality. Contrast this with Elginacres, a local OFC member who I had the priviledge to meet and play with a few months ago. He was a professional musician who toured with Up With People. For a number of years, his traveling guitar was none other than the original slothead No. 43. According to Elgin, he neither owned nor wanted any other guitar (although since he stopped touring, I recall he said something about picking up another). His guitar (and what a guitar it was and still is) was simply a tool of his trade, to be properly cared for of course, but not to be collected, not to viewed as some type of art form, and certainly never to be left unplayed on a wall. I admire Elgin for his talent and his guitar, but his purposes and objectives are different than mine. Of course, that's perfectly o.k. We all have our own reasons for appreciating these wonderful instruments. Find yours and enjoy.
