No one say, "North Atlantic Treaty Alliance!"
Hi Folks. So I see all these guitars listed, and they say that they have a "Nato neck" or "Nato back". What it this stuff. I don't think that I've seen a Nato tree. If I have, I didn't know it. Education Please...

According to Ukelele World, at least as quoted on Google, it's also known as Eastern Mahogany. It's a cheaper mahogany, apparently.

Someone once reviewed it and actually said, "Neat-o!" and was misquoted, so it henceforth became "Nato"... ;)

Actually, that's interesting to know...I've wondered myself and was just too lazy to find out.

Correct name is Nyatoh. It's a cheap mahogany substitute widely used in the Asian furniture industry. On guitars it's fine for backs and sides and usually stable enough to make necks.

I expected I'd get a lot of flack for referring to Ukelele World, but you guys must have known it as an authoritative source. Can you imagine subscribing to a magazine about Ukes?

Since George Harrison's last album, there seems to be a re-kindling of interest in ukes - believe it or not. Several guys on the Telecaster board have discovered their love for the uke. I'm holding fast to my non-uke ways, thank you.

There is a vid-clip of a guy on a HI beach, playing Hendrix on a Uke, and he sounds damn good! -DIVX Stage 6 Videos- Just went back to the site, same dude playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
I was in Apple Music, wish-shopping, and the dude was demonstrating a Koa Uke, and it actually sounded Great. I guess it would be like a guitar without the 5th & 6th string. Or half a Mandolin?

It's like all these other nonguitar instruments. When you're really good, it doesn't matter what it is, it will sound good.

Yeah, Jake Shimabukuro. I beleive he has a few postings of obscure rock instrumentals. And the dude is Awsome. I look at all these neat instuments, but I need to work on my guitar. Get past open chords, train my fingers to play Bm without looking.

I heard that we'd have trouble with our BMs when we got older. I don't have that problem yet, but I do have trouble with Bms.

Lucky me... Half my friends my age are complaining about carpal tunnel syndrome, and I am reaching the "age of arthritis". That's when I decided to learn guitar for real. Good Plan! I enjoy myself, so it's okay.

Your closet door is probably made from nato wood or fine philipine luan. I've seen guitar necks made of nato, so I guess it's OK.
