Location: Central Massachusetts | Hi all, just curious about the cutaway manufacturing process.. guess I'm used to the modern guitars where the entire bowl is molded as one piece, cutaway and all.
I'm "borrowing" Gh1's 1674 Country Artist and I noticed that the bowl appears to have litterally been cut away and adapted with another piece to form the cutaway.
There is a seam that runs from the "neck block" down, over, and all the way up to where the bowl meets the top. While neither bowl piece appears to be hand-laid, the seam work does appear to be by hand.
Was this the way all cutaways were done in those days? This guitar was manufactured in 1983. Where's theflume?

Location: NJ | the first cutways were altered like that. it was before they got a bowl mold made. |

Location: Central Massachusetts | wow, interesting. What a lot of work! You'd never know looking at the outside.
I hadn't realized that Ovation didn't start doing cutaways until 82. at least that's the earliest I can find in the decoder.
Thanks |
