Joined: October 2006 Posts: 3 Location: Ontario | Hi everyone, I am a new guitar player, trying to buy my first guitar... difficult because I know very little... Today I looked at a second hand Ovation Pinnacle 3862... was made in japan, has the spruce top... probably one of the later models (1992?). As far as my scrutiny could tell, the guitar is in mint condition... not a scratch in sight, and was very recently re-strung. The only aesthetic problem is that the tuners are fading/oxidizing... no big deal considering it is almost 15 years old... I very much like how the guitar feels and sounds... the owner is FIRM at CAD$350 (this is roughly US$310) Is this a decent price? There is one on ebay right now where the owner is asking like 1000 bucks! I think that person may be crazy... but then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about! I am having trouble finding estimates of the worth of this guitar... Any suggestions? This seems like the best place for information on Ovations... Best Regards, Aaron

If it were me, I'd want to spend a little less on that or look to spend a little more on a USA Ovation. If you want it and are happy with that price, then that's what it's worth. You should be able to play a few other models, though, and compare.

Nice guitar, but I'd take a USA Legend or Balladeer over it in a heartbeat. The 350 he's asking isn't necessarily a "bad" price, but right now you can find used Legends and Balladeers on ebay for much better values. Here's a nice looking Balladeer up on ebay - only says US shipping, but might ship to Canada as well. Or, someone here on the OFC would be happy to help you with receiving and shipping to you - it's done all the time. Here\'s another one.

Keeping in mind that i am a beginner and likely wont be able to tell the difference haha... also, I heard that the ones which were assembled in japan are of excellent quality? It seems like those ones on ebay will sell for about 4-500 US considering how furiously they are being bidded on...
