Subject: 1615 pickup troubleshooting

Location: CLEVELAND, OHIO		hello all--just obtained a used 1615-1 12-string electro/acoustic and the pickups appear to add a grating high-frequency 'pop' to any strum attack--particularly upon strumming away from the soundhole and towards the bridge--although i have not A/B'd w/ another amplifier, how might this be troubleshot short of taking in for formal repair?

Also, what are the logistics of swapping the 1615 electronics/pickups for those of say a 1758 or 1858?
