You have a vintage 1118 that needs professional repair-work done that might cost in the ballpark of anywhere from $200-$600 with no guarantee of a perfect fix. You also want to have electronics installed in this guitar (by Ovation themselves - It's already a player, rather than a collector's piece). The grand total approaches, potentially, $1000 for a guitar that initially only cost $200.00
Do you see these things through and revitalize a beautiful old vintage twelve string to its former glory or...
Cut your losses and spend the $900-$1000 you've factored into repairs on a brand new Ovation or used Adamas.
Personally I'm sitting on a fence about this. I'm leaning more on the 'repairs' side just because I've already got the guitar, like its sound and am - usually - not a quitter. Also, it'd be a hard sell now knowing what it needs (possibly a new neck).
What would you do? |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | Hmm..Tough question, but did you know all this before you aquired the guitar ? ..and how much do You think a guitar of this caliber should/may cost you,and would you regard it to be the same guitar, furthermore ,I gather from your post that you doubt if the result would be to your satisfaction...in the end it is your decision, but what would one like it ,in good condition cost you ? ;)
