Location: Orange County, California | *if* you like the factory setup (decidedly middle-of-the road), you probably won't notice much difference going from lights to custom lights, or even to some of the heavier tensions. These necks are just really stable. Now, If you've taken out 3 shims, and/or like you neck "straight as an arrow" (no relief what so ever), then you might get some buzz in the middle frets going to really light strings. just give the ol' t-rod a twist (loosen to add relief) and bob's yer uncle. Conversely, if you're a fret crusher (like Moody, who only knows three chords including EbMaj, which he plays in the first position) who simply gives us all "LARGER STRING ENVY", you might want to put in a shim and/or flatten out the neck with the truss rod.
The Mother ship sets them up a little high, with a measurable amount of relief on 12-53's. All in all, a good place to start.

Location: Hicksville, NY | I did the opposite ... I upgraded from custom lights to lights for all my guitars. The truss rod needed some tweaking, but it wasn't major. I will admit that the custom lights were a little gentler on the fingers, but they also sound weak and can be annoyingly bright at times. |
