Howdy boys,

Got my Custom Legend. It's just what I need and I am very happy with sound, look and feel. I know what you all mean about the deaper bowls though. If I didn't get such a great deal, I would have gone for mid-bowl Elite or higher, maybe Adamas. There's always a next time!

Anyway, now I'm in the market for an acoustic amp. The CL sounds pretty good out of my old Fender 112 but I want more range and options. What do you guys recommend? I heard that Fender Acoustosonics are pretty nice. Also Washburn makes a good amp, just a little light weight though.

I think 60 to 100 watts should be enough for home and party use. Know any dealers in "pre-owned"?

E-man, there have been quite a few discussions on the subject of acoustic amps on this board. Try a search on the phrase "acoustic amp" & check out the previous posts

I just found a Peavy ecoustic 112. I'm very happy with sound... And price. The Trace TA50 was very nice. The price was out of my range. A local "AMP EXPERT" gave rave reviews on the Peavy. "You get a lot for the money" "Very good customer support from Peavy"...
I should do a commercial.

I would guess I'm gonna get flamed here.. but.. If you want to play through an acoustic amp, for personal use, the Trace Elliot (the one with the rounded front) is about the only way to go UNLESS you have a particular sound you are interested in that some other amp will provide. But the TA is the standard. After that it really doesn't matter. If you do play onstage, the TA make a great monitor and the sound man will thank you cause he won't have to worry about it, he'll just DI the guitar and let you monitor to your hearts content. The TA also looks nice in your living room as it is wood tone and looks a little more like a piece of odd art than an amp. If you have another amp for an electric guitar... Try it first, try lots of eq settings... they TRY the TA. You may find the sound you like you already have. I have a new VOX Valvetronix (tube)modeling amp.. I must say that the Ovation pre-amps (adamas II and 2002 collectors) sound unbelieveable when set up as a "tweed 4 x 10" or a "clean boutique"

Miles;

Would you by chance have any pix/specs on that TA model you have? I used to have a TA35 which I loved (but lost in a divorce). It was a GREAT sounding amp (but a little on the "small" side).

Right now I'm playing through a Peavey PA/speakers, and would really like to find another TA, but I'm not familiar with a "wood look" TA amp.

Seems the Ta range is the way to go, ive considered many diff makes and types, really was after a TA60CR trace but missed it, now found a TA100R (used) at a snip of a price and a mean flight case chucked in too, approx $350 US.
Should do me for a few years at least.I considered new and the garantee back up that means, but the new prices mean less money for spending on important things such as a new edition to the O range
;)

Be quick guys, Gibson own Trace & have shut down the operation, so it'll be used or old stock only pretty soon. Trace acoustic amps are something of a benchmark, I'm not a huge fan, but hey, that's just me, they're great amps. Miles is right, like the majority of acoustic amps treat them as a DI box/personal monitor for all but moderate volume applications. If you can't find a trace check out Ashdown (made by ex-Trace guys but probably very expensive in the US) or AER. SWR are great but not as portable as other acoustic amps & some of the Genz Benz stuff looks
interesting.

there is a rumour (notice the british spelling) that trace is going to be moved to the US. Personally I think it is a mistake. I would not buy an SWR they have too much line noise but my wife has a genz benz bass amp that I am very fond of and I suspect their acoustic amp would not be bad either.

I just bought an ashdown amp. The Reso 1 that I saw a couple of weeks ago. I kept thinking about it and wound up getting it. It looks great. It will be perfect sitting on a stand next to the Nationals. The only problem is this big cord coming out of the back, I'll probably cut that off so the dog won't trip over it, bassets don't get to high off the ground!

Trace amps made in the US?, great, except that when us Brits want one they'll cost double the old price.

I knew I saw a Trace Acoustic in a wood cabinet. I think this is a great acoustic amp, that also looks nice in the living room.

That's a NICE looking amp!!?

I used to have a TA35, and that one sounded nice, I'll bet this one really cranks!

I've never seen one with a wood cabinet like that (looks like mahagony!). Do they come "stock" like that or do you think that this was a custom "refit"?

I don't think it's a custom. I have seen this before in stores and on stage, unless it's a common thing to do.

Gary, I haven't plugged in the Ashdown yet. The power cord came after it by a week and we got sidetracked by some other things. I'll give a report when I give it a listen. In the mean time it sits next to my National and they look good together.

That Trace in the reddish cab is stock production. It's just a stain over the kjdljkdshvbhjk wood. I do have a maple TA35 that was a custom. That one is a maple venerial over the particleboard
