Location: Central Florida | I just discovered this site a few days ago and I'm extremely pleased to know you're here. I've been an Ovation player / enthusiast since I first saw these guitars in the hands of a (then) young guitar slinger named Glen Campbell way back in 1969. I purchased my first Ovation in 1970 (a Standard Balladeer). Since then, I've probably owned close to fifty different models (at various times).
Today, I own a relatively small (although my wife doesn't think so), but much beloved collection of Ovations. Among them; a '68 Deluxe Balladeer (with smooth back and five point bridge), '71 Glen Campbell Artist six string, '78 Glen Campbell 12-string, '79 Country Artist, '83 Custom Legend and a circa '89-'90 lefty Elite. All have natural tops except the Custom Legend, which is black; and all except the Deluxe Balladeer and the GC six string are electric. My only "non-acoustic" Ovation at present is a Preacher Deluxe 12-string, which is really a gas to play!
I thought I was about to add the crowning piece to my collection about a month ago, but Weiner -- you old scamp -- you beat me to it! Yep, I was poised and ready to bid on that Glen Campbell owned proto, but the seller ended his auction early and, well what can I say, I'm still a bit heartsick over that one. Nevertheless, let me say congratulations, my friend, on yet another unbelievable acquisition!
I guess I've rambled on enough for this, my first post. I'm just glad there is now a place to go to share my meanderings and learn a few things along the way... What a great site!
