A friend of mine's son is starting guitar class in school. They gave him some old beater to play that I hear sounds terrible, My friend has an Applause that he say's sounds much better, but it needs set up.Long story short, (too late)can the Applause be set up and adjusted like an Ovation. He said the string height is kind of high. That was the only issue that he told me about.

And yes TJ it's the first "O" that you owned :D

Yes!

That is the beauty of the Ovation design regardless of where it was made (cheaply).

The only spoiler would be an Aluminium fret board.

This one has a wood fret board, if I'm not mistaken. Great sounding guitar as I recall. Gary, have him bring it in. We can set it up with no problem.

I see them selling Appauseses for as much a Celebrities... So who knows?

I've never played one, so I have no experience. They could be okay guitars.

I've had my share of Celebrities, so I cannot dis them like some folks. :p

I still have my Applause that I got in 1976, and it still plays damn good. Action's great, even after all these years. Needs new strings though.

I was 14 and my mother told me she would put one on layaway for me for xmas. $125, and that was a lot to us back then.

The store had about 20 of them, and I tried every single one. The rest sounded ok, but this one definitely had (and has) a particularly nice tone. I couldn't wait for xmas.

So December rolls around and my mother tells me she didn't get the bonus she was expecting, and that she was very sorry but she would not be able to get me that guitar.

I pretended it was fine so she wouldn't feel bad, but I was very disappointed. I didn't suspect a thing. Then xmas morning, there it was under the tree. My mother was so happy that she was able to completely snow me. :)

It may be a lowly Applause, but that guitar will be with me til I kick.

scooterboy,

Awesome story! Now ya've taken me way back...

I'll never forget two Christmas morns. The first presented me a Western Flyer bike (mit the ol' balloon tires). The other was the one of the first Wilson A2000 baseball gloves available (still have it, pricele$$). BTW, that was all I got besides school clothes. What a sacrifice my parents made...

Thanx for the memory jog!

OBTW Gway, get it set up for his comfort!

Love to see those pictures and to know what setup gets done to it. The Applause is probably the one I'll always keep.

OK TJ, when I get it I want to clean her up a bit after the set up. The fret board probably hasn't seen any oil in years, and who knows what the body looks like.
