Nick died late Wednesday (complications of surgery) in Chula Vista at 75. One of the three founders of the Kingston Trio and owner of the name for all of these years.

Not an Ovation player (that I know of) except for a couple of minutes on my Custom Legend 1658 years ago.

A nice guy...

Unfortunately most of the ones that us "old guys" grew up with are 20-30 years older than we are. In the next 5-10 years I think the majority of our early music heroes will be leaving us.

I can remember listening to them on vinyl back in the mid 50's when my brother and sister played the album on our new Voice of Music Hi Fi. Tom Dooley comes to mind. RIP.

Damn. At the jam tonight I've been planning on doing Scotch & Soda. Now I'll have to dedicate it....

"Well, did he ever return? No, he never returned..." (MTA)

Yes, many of my 'influences' have moved on!

RIP Nick...

So sorry to hear this. Before I moved back to Indiana, I lived in Portland, Oregon and I got to see the Kingston Trio about 4 times in one of the local pubs. That was the George Grove, Bob Shane and Nick trio. Great shows, great playing and great harmonies. This is the music that first got me hooked on music and I still love to listen to them today. He will be missed. I was fortunate enough to get Bob & Nick's autographs and have them proudly displayed in my music area.
