Location: Temuco Chile | I am new to the forum and saw Vanessas letter. I own a model GC 1117-4 (s/n 005405)that I bought new in early 1970 if my memory serves. I have owned, cherished and played it for more than 30 years (I am 46). To my dismay recently some friends of my son were looking at the guitar and and leaned it against the wall...it fell over and broke the neck completely off. I don't mean cracked I mean broke! Any suggestions? I have talked to some that have said that there was somewhat of a design flaw with the original curved necks. Has anyone had any success repairing something like this? The Guitar was in mint condition... I feel like I have lost a good friend. Maybe no one can give me any suggestions but I knew Ovation lovers would understand.

Location: SoCal | Oh man, I feel for you.
There was a problem with the severe angle of the headstocks and they would sometimes break, but I'm no aware of any problems with the whole neck.
Normally, I'd say send it to Ovation. But from Chile, I don't know. If you can send it to them, that's your best bet. |

Location: Temuco Chile | Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I could be a little less vague about the problem. You are correct the break ocurred at the head where it curves just above the tension rod. Its about a 30 degree angle break. In a perfect world someone out there would have the same model sitting around that the body was crushed by a truck but the neck was in perfect shape!(but i guess in a perfect world nobody would have to deal with a broken Ovation?) The GC Artist Balladeer was not my first nor last but has always been my favorite. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Try contacting either the service dept or the international sales division, they can tell you who the distributor for that part of the world is. Maybe he can help. That is major reconstructive surgery though. |
