Cheers again,
2 months ago I posted here how excited I was about a new used guitar, which turned out to be a Medallion/Matrix per this bb's response. I knew it had been repaired (even slight bulge under bridge, but seemed very solidly done.)
Now, sadly, the bridge has pulled away from the face, along with several centimeters of lovely fir. Is it possible to "simply" (hah) have the entire top replaced? If so, can I get them to place the holes in bridge so that strings go inside body, thus sharing the tension in two directions (sorry, poor description, but my "other" guitar has pegs thru bridge, down into body...) A web search turned up a handful of Ovation dealers within 100 miles. I liked this guitar Very much (if I may say, it resembles the feel of my 0018 Martin quite a lot and sounds better than a whole lot of instruments.) How bad do you will the sticker shock be?
Thanks in advance -- this bulletin board is full of supportive advice, so I'm starting here, will call some dealers re: repairs once the nausea subsides.

Laminated tops such as on the Matrix can be more of a problem to repair than solid tops, as delamination of the plys can be a pain to fix, but it's impossible to properly evaluate damage like you describe unseen. You need to have a good repairman check your guitar, but be careful, whether the guitar is worth 50 or 5000 bucks, a luthier's time & expertise is a fixed charge. Forget replacing the top, you could buy a decent used USA Ovation for what that would cost.

Thank you, again, for writing. Will check things out, but probably will be looking for another Ovation. You're right, hard to eval. sight unseen, and description of laminate layers didn't fully express that all layers "gave way" together, leaving whole in the top.

It's really good having a place to bring this sort of thing to talk about.
