| I have a 1658 ovation 12 string manufactured in 1979. I purchased it used and have never seen another one like it. Using Kaman's code it would appear it is as the subject line describes. I will describe the guitar. It has abalone for the purfling, rosette and fret board markers like a custom legend. It has the carved walnut bridge and truss rod cover like a custom legend. It has the split head stock and joined at the 12th fret like a Glen Campbell model. Anyone have any ideas on the history of this one, # made, etc. I can find nothing in Walter Carter's Ovation History book. |

It always looked to me that this coincided with the advent of the Kaman Bar which made a much more stable neck.
Back to the custom legend 12, I've got a catalog from 1980 which has them listed along with pics and specs. This is the only catalog I have which has a listing for them.
