hi amigos,

it's good to be back!! it was a crazy summer that led me in some unintended directions and i am finally back in mexico putting out a multitude of small fires, and building a few new ones.

one small fire is a 1983 collectors series i bought that arrived without electronics. they had been removed and jack and vol knob holes were plugged. original piezo bridge is still in place, but i havent tested it to see if it is ok. the guitar itself is in good shape and it plays great after a basic setup. the shallow body would make it a great stage acoustic/electric. any suggestions? even with the shallow body it sounds great as an acoustic, but i seldom play acoustic and or with a mic. anybody got some old electronics in the bone pile?

Hey Russ, welcome back! I have an original Ovation preamp (vol control only) with battery holder & output jack, from an 82 Custom Balladeer. Email me off the board if you're interested.

Welcome back Russ

Here in Nuevo Mejico, I've missed your tales of Viejo Mejico and I think others have too.

Ok Russ. Now that you're back, we all need pics and reports of these new guitars of yours as well as a tale of the trip.

Don't make us all come down to Mexico, Ovations in hand, to see these new guitars!

great to read those familiar ''voices''. if i don't post photos or descriptions do you promise to come down, guitar in hand? all i'll tell you in that case is that all of the local musicians genuflect as they pass "the shrine of the evangelical sons of the brotherhood of ovation", puerto vallarta chapter. thanks to brother bill, i have the finest guitars i have ever owned.

i was concerned with crossing the border with so many guitars at one time, but the mexican customs guy thought a baker's dozen of guitars in the back of an old benz wagon being towed by ford diesel 4x4 made ALL of our stuff duty free! we didn't pay a peso this time, which helped as wall street has done a good job of making the "stack" two dimensional.

that 82 balladeer gear is a good possibility paul. i will write more to you in person as you have always got lots of great solutions to the electronic questions on this board. the 83 collectors series had the stacked vol tone knobs if i am not mistaken. is the 82 balladeer like that? my 82 collectors has separate vol and tone knobs. i actually am open to almost any idea that would give me a good plugged in sound, and fit in a ss body. i doubt that restoring this guitar to original would be cost effective. by the way, do you remember that sound tech amp i was asking about? seems it was never registered for the 5 year warranty. since it was purchased from a registered dealer, i got a free repair of the bad channel AND the 5 year warranty. pretty cool pawn shop deal considering i was satisfied with the three working channels for $100. i went in looking for an air stapler and wound up with a sweet little p/a system!
