on my ultra gs: the single coils have 2 of the magnets on both pickups about a fat 1/8" higher than the others. why? also why is the humbucker at the bridge slanted?

on my eclipse, the bar magnets have a notch machined out of them on both pickups under two strings. again about 1/8". ???

Well I can answer the slant question.. but I've always been curious about the magnet heights on single coils myslef. Some strats are that way too. The slanted humbucker is so that the magnets are supposedly more evenly distributed across the strings. Sorta like the Carvin M-22 pickup with 12 magnets on each bar.

The thumbsucker is slanted because that's the way van halen had it on his kramer. We thought we'd be cool and copy it.
The eclipse has the cut out under the B string since it is usually louder so the pole piece is lower to compensate for that. The single coils are probably done for the same reason. Those are DiMarzios.
there you go.

With the string pressed down at the last fret measure from under the string to the top of the pickup. I always put them about 2/32. The higher you go the louder is gets but at some point the strings will buzz against them. Also pickups with magnetized pole pieces need to be furthur (a southern term) away from the string so as not to get magnetic pull on the string, makes it sound bad, out of tune.
Set them at 2/32 and then play wif it for the sound you like.
Good Luck Amigo.
