While we are down there I would like to find one of those big, fat guitars that is played in the mariachi bands but I don't know what to ask for or where to look. How about it all you worldly travelers, anyone know the name of this type guitar? Also is there any hassle getting one thru customs? I've been practicing drinking adult beverages this week in preparation for the all inclusive vacation. I think in a few more days I'll be ready as I can tell I've gotten better at drinking just this week. Practice does make you better. JAYROC

I shoulda' come down to see you this weekend as it was probably pretty "quiet" in Mexico...... .....because it seemed the entire COUNTRY took over the Mandaly Bay in Vegas (where I was staying) for the Vargas/DeLaHoya fight!!! (I coulda' SWORN that I heard a chicken in the room down the hall at 4a.m. Sunday morning!) On the aforementioned "topic": Back in '77, I went to a concert at Radio City Music Hall in NYC to see the band Renaissance. The opening act was rather bizzarre British band called "Sailor". The lead singer played a guitarron. First time I'd ever seen/heard one, but I was completely bemused by it. The rest of the band's instrumentation/repertoire had absolutely NOTHING even REMOTELY analagous to a guitarron, but I guess it was just the "bizzarreness factor" that it added. I'm not a fight fan. Nor do I even GAMBLE!! My girlfriend is an executive muckety-muck with a big eyewear company out here and she had to go to Vegas for the big VisionWest eyewear show. Her company put her up at Mandalay Bay (who's big shining jewel is a man-made beach repleat with huge wavepool that she'd never have the opportunity to use). I figured SOMEBODY had to do an extensive study on the effects that perfect, four-foot waves every 1.5 minutes have on an alcohol-marinated body, and I was JUST the person to do it! Yes, I'd MUCH prefer the moon-driven waves of the ocean surf, but "if it's for free, it's for me", so from 10am until 6pm every day I alternated between being a pickled lizard in a beach chair to a grunnion in artificial "surf". Also got to catch the "Blue Man Group". PHENOMENAL show!!!!! I highly recomend it!
