Location: Shreveport,La | Just purchased my first Ovation ,a 1667 electic acoustic,I have a Sigma by Martin that I bought 25 or so years ago and decided in my old age to try a electric,found a used Ovation ,tried it out and love the rich full sound and its a beauty,so I bought it,went over to my sons place to try it out on his amp, sounds super great!!only problem is the volume knob doesnt work,is that a big problem to fix?and I dont see no place for a battery ,does it have to have one? And I have to play sitting down, and with the round back I am having a hard time getting use to it and keeping it from sliding around ,so what am I doing wrong ,only had it for two days so maybe I can learn to control it .Thanks Jimmie |

Glad you like your Ovation. As you can tell from those of us here, we are all big fans.
Check the set screw on the volume knob. It is probably loose which is why the volume knob just turns freely.
The battery for your guitar is inside. Change it when you change the strings. You should see, when you are holding the guitar in your lap, a screw on the side of the guitar. With the strings loosened or off, reach in the guitar to where the screw is. It holds the battery in place. While holding the battery container inside the guitar, turn the screw 1/2 turn and the battery container will come out. Then you can change the battery. Later models have batterys that can be changed outside the guitar. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | When the guitar is plugged in the battery is on. To turn off the drain on the batt unplug. Batteries should last 6-12 months but it really depends on how much you play plugged in. |

Location: Shreveport,La | Thanks for the reply.There is a screw on the guitar but it has nothing inside ,no case or anything to hold a battery,the screw does not have anything connected to it,some kind of small nut at the end.this screw is located on the left side of the volume knob so since it sounds ok and it works fine with a amp what does the battery do?
I guess its pretty obvious I dont know much about the innards of a guitar and my husband has never even held a guitar much less picked one,so he is no help,Thanks Jimmie :( |

sounds like the preamp has been bypassed and it's straight output. Get someone who knows this stuff to check it out.
Learing to hold it is no problem. The more you get to likke the sound, the easier it gets. |

Location: NJ | I don't think some of the applause models have battery driven preamps....but look inside the sound hole and take the strings off and feel around in there.... |
