Joined: October 2002 Posts: 125 Location: Dallas | I would like to invite one & all jeer at me and pelt me with rocks & garbage....question my ancestry...lambast me with vulgar adjectives & nouns.... You know how proud I was of my new/used Celebrity CV68. I finally got an amp cord, but it refused to make music when I plugged her in. So, I thought, "no telling how old that battery is", and installed a new one with like results. Being a Quantum Physicist, I thought,"gee, I must have reversed the polarity on the battery/connection, so I reinstalled it the other way....(you guys know where this is goin', don'tcha?)....reversing the polarity the 2nd time I installed it. I plugged that bad boy in....AND.... So, my questions: 1. What could I have fried, other than the preamp? 2. Do you know about how much I'll spend to get a new one? 3. Have you ever heard of this happening? 4. If you make a cow laugh, does milk come out her nose? 5. If vegetarians eat vegetables, what do humanitarians eat? Any help is kindly appreciated. KD

But, pass me the Inquisitor's Hook. I have been trying to locate some electronic schematics for DJ-4 preamps, so I can be empathic, and take some of the hits from misguided beer bottles for you.

Right up my alley...I usually term such damaged goods as "expensive trot line weights", or, "poorly designed impact weapons". LMAO! Well, I've got calls in to a couple repairmen & Ovation as well. My guitar will NEVER smell the same. Paul Templeman stated in one of his posts, "the preamps are pretty much bombproof" (paraphrase), which is why I think I musta nuked this motherfarper. OK....so I spend a couple hundred bucks more I still think this joint needs a chat function. Regards, KDC

There is a bunch of these models with the same electronics from what I've seen on the board. You might even be able to upgrade without breaking your bank. Try some searches on pick-ups, preamps, batteries etc.. I think yours is the first post to report smoking the electrics, there have been some suspicians of other things being smoked, but they don't seem to have damaged any guitars. Bailey

My initial investigation into replacing the preamp (which may or may not be nuked, the power LED was still lit when I yanked the cord) is depressing ($150-225). That is why I asked if it could have been anything else (I'm praying to God that some Ovation engineer with some snap thought to include a fuseable link in the wiring, not dissimilar from what you would find under the hood of your car). It was stupid of me not to pay attention to the battery configuration before I took the original one out. I also wish the battery comaprtment had been marked "+/-", but it is not. I have since found out that my amp was the problem. I still have to get my local Ovation repair guy to look at the Viper. Thanks again.
