Monitor Holes Has anyone seen an Ovation model like this? Early prototype? Jim

But, what you need to remember is that the soundhole (or holes) is a tuning port for the fundamental frequency of the guitar's air-cavity and there is an optimum size of soundhole for a given body size. Add side ports and you need to decrease the size of the main soundhole accordingly because bass response is decreased as the Helmholtz frequency is raised (try playing an Adamas or Elite with the back cover off) I've always thought that the Ovation SSB's might have sounded better acoustically if they'd been made with a smaller soundhole. Martin always used proportionally smaller holes on their smaller guitars and they are always well-balanced and not lacking in bass response. I seem to remember that John's mod showed that effect. It was easier to hear from the playing position but lacked a little bass. A set of Airlocks would cure that.

It’s a great guitar for learning and playing, because a lot of the sound comes up and you are able to hear the guitar better. But the guitar is a bit softer than most for your audience. I have never seen any of these come up on the used market. Even though Arbor seems to make mostly low end stuff today, this is a really nice playing guitar. I’ll snap some photos and post them if anyone is interested.
