hello all, i'm brand new to this board and site, so please be gentle.
i have wanted an ovation preacher since i was 17 years old. could not afford it on ronald mcdonald paychecks, so i dreamed. well some 28 years later, here i sit with my own '79 preacher deluxe. life is good. so anyway......
i understand most of the controls, knobs, and effects. one question i have is, there are two small sliding switches just above the pickups. i am assuming they are to switch from single coil to double. is this correct? and which way is single? here i would guess that single is toward the head, with double being toward the butt end. also, are there any sites that have old hardware, tuning keys, etc? thanks for any info you can give me. i hope the gold plating can take these louisiana summers.

Hello, I am from Louisiana also. Welcome! You mentioned your guitar had two sliding swiches above the pickups. Are you sure your guitar is not a UK2 and not a Preacher. Thanks Paul Hebert

and yes, it is definitely a preacher deluxe. tone knob, volume knob, pick up selector toggle, another toggle dealing with dropping the midrange levels for a more mellow sound. so two knobs, two toggles, two switches, electronicesa are i believe identical to the deacon and breadwinner.

The switches "series/parallel" switch so that you can achieve a single coil sound off the thumbsucker pickup. So basically you are correct. I always just let my ears do the walking as I never remember which way is which.

they are series/parallel switches and that just means how the two coils work together. They are both always on. To the neck is the fatter sound and the bridge is the brighter sound. It's that way cause I can't remember which is series and which is parallel but you sure can remember neck is fat and bridge is bright.

I bought a square foot of DeRidder in 1955 when I was there on an Army exercise that covered half the state so I consider myself a Louisiana citizen, although I'll admit I never paid my property taxes. I learned to like chicory coffee in those little crossroad cafes as we travelled up and down the state, I had a great time.
