Was it sold? if so how much did he get? does the guy still have it? if not who bought it and for how much. I am just curious as to the value being more because it was Glen's guitar or because it was a limited run of Ovations.

It did not match with the rest of the guitar.I thought it was a replacement neck at first until Bill confirmed there was one bluebird with a grey stained neck.

Click on the link below as the pictures are still there. If you find out what happened to it, I'ld love to know. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1510281612&r=0&t...

I also was interested in the guitar and after a point the guy stopped answering me. :(

I've seen Glen play a 12 with 2 pickups, one bridge pick up alone, and one with a plain neck, no binding are diamond inlays. Bill, can you give us the full story on these guitars? I feel like I'm saying "Daddy, tell us what it was like in the old days."

There were less than 10 and most went to Glen, 6 and 12. There were a couple that didn't make it to him and Sam has one of these. One of his 6 strings got stolen in Boston. There was a brown 12 that we made and kept. It's on it's way to tequila land now. They were all foam viper bodies (with the tummy cut)with the same skeleton as the UK2 with mahogony necks, preechers I think, (maybe Deacons)

I am the present owner of the blue (gray) necked Bluebird six-string...thanks once again Sam! It certianly been informative to read all these posts about these illusive guitars. I too, had wondered about the odd color match between the neck and body. Another odd thing is that it has no decal on the headstock. I think this possibly may have been the very first one made, as the serial # (E5999), pot date codes and inspection stamp(?) place manufacture around late '74 or early '75. Here is a pic of a Bluebird 12-string which I also own. This one was airline damaged when Glen gave it to a well known Nashville songwriter. Ovation refineshed it for him in a very non-Bluebird like manner. When I got it I simply had to get it restored back to original form and what better oppertunity, having the original six-string as a model. I sent it to a luthier in Ontario along with the six-string body and 13 months later (yes, he's good but takes his time :) )I got it back and I was totally blown away by the results; the accruacy in recreating the complex paint scheme and also the way it played and sounded. I have no idea if it will ever be worth any amount of money but don't really care as I never have any intention of selling. After being an avid vintage Fender collector for a long time it is great having some rare (this may be the last existing 12-string) yet inexpensive ($1300 including restore), and one of the coolest looking guitars on the planet. My '53 Tele has been collecting a lot of dust since I got these! I am a big fan of Glen's and when I used to see him play these, I thought they were Vipers with fancy paint jobs, but really, the only thing thsy have in common are the body/headstock shape. Anyway, great site, I'll be back...here's the picture. Weiner Bluebird 12-String

For everybody else, I was watching Glen Campbell on some videos from the 1970's and 80's and saw at least 3 different Bluebird 12 strings that he played. The first was, possibly, Wayne's guitar, which he played in the late 70's and again in the late 1980's. This guitar had the two Ovation humbucker p/u's and the Deacon neck. This may have been two different guitars in that the older one had the old style bridge, and the one I saw in the late 80's had the newer style. In between, in the early 1980's (82 and 84), He played one with only an aftermarket humbucker in the bridge position, no neck pickup, and what looks like just one knob. Still had the Deacon neck. The last one, and I think I saw this one in the early 90's or late 80's, had a plain neck and I don't remember the pickups. Have to see if I can find the video. You know, I know a guy who plays in Glen's band and I could ask him to ask Glen, but he probably wouldn't remember. [ December 21, 2002: Message edited by: moody, p.i. ]

This may or may not be correct but there is the one I have, which was left mostly stock (there is no evidence of any tampering under the hood), and a second one with which he experimented with a few different pickup configurations including the single aftermarket setup that you refer. As for bridges, in any pics or video I have from '79-'80 onward, the new style is used so I just assumed the bridges were just upgraded to the 'improved' version which came out at the time. The plain ‘Preacher-12' type neck was never seen until the late ‘80's, early ‘90's, long after Ovation’s solid body production had ceased. That would seem to indicate that this was perhaps a replaced neck. I did make some inquiries to the band mate you mentioned and, like you said, Glen doesn’t have a lot of recollection about the specifics of his early guitars. There were quite a few different instruments over the 30+ years and a lot of “roarin’”going on there for quite a while as well! Wayne
