Hi all, I have bought a 1996 Collectors and the guitar must now be shipped from Oslo to my home town of Haugesund (9 hrs drive).

The owner says he has a large cardboard box into which he can place the guitar (inside its hard case of course).. fill the gaps with styrofoam and then seal it.
I am more worried about the temperature whilst travelling than it being bumped, knocked etc.

The likelyhood is that it will be in a holding yard overnight/or a trailer etc...... do we think the guitar would be alright and that it could tolerate the gradual temperature drop?.

Perhaps the guitar would never get "that" cold whereby the finnish could split.

The guitar is in as new condition, never gigged, no dings, scratches.... so I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Regards Alan

PS It is cold here now as we are in Norway.

have him detune it and when the guitar arrives at your house DO NOT OPEN THE BOX let it sit for a few hours then take it out of the box let it sit for a few hours open the latches of the case let it sit for a few hours then open it. you should be fine. I do that all the time in cold weather.

Thanks Alpep for your quick and helpful responce.

It will be a real test of willpower to have the guitar within reach but be unable to play it.

So near but yet so far.

Thanks again

Here’s a money saving tip.
Standard guitar shipping boxes are 108” or less, (length + girth) or about 48” X 20” X 10”. Don’t worry about the weight. Keep your box to this size and you can save almost half the shipping charges depending on whom you ship with and how far it’s going.

Al posted "have him detune it and when the guitar arrives at your house DO NOT OPEN THE BOX" the last part is the hardest  . I had a question about detune... I do exactly that "detune" leaving some tension. I always thought that was better than loosening the strings completely or shipping without strings, but I don't know why.
