Hi,
Recently acquired this wonderful Ovation guitar, but someone removed the pick-up from it.

Can anyone tell me what type of pick-up I should look for, were it gets mounted and how to mount it?

It would be greatly appreciated. It's a great guitar and I want to bring it back to life.

If it's a 1111 Balladeer they were never offered as electros at that time. It may be a 1612 Custom Balladeer or 1621 Artist. If the pickup/saddle assembly has been removed what has it been replaced with? A standard saddle isn't wide enough. Is there a preamp & battery-holder in the guitar? The factory should be able to supply a replacement pickup.

So the question becomes, what is the model number on the label in the soundhole (sounds like Professor Green with the knife in the library)?

It is a 1111-6 serial number 016294.

There is a 1/4" jack mounted on the lower right side of the back of the guitar with a wire connected to it that goes nowhere. So I figured someone removed the pick-up. Is it true they made these without pick-ups?

The model 1111 was a non electric Balladeer. It would not have been made with a factory pickup. A Balladeer with a factory pickup would have been a 1611.

It would appear that somebody added something aftermarket to your guitar and then took it out.

And don't be so surprised that Ovation would make guitars w/o pickups. Some of us like the way our guitars sound unplugged.

Thanks a lot for the information.

Can I add a pick-up to this guitar? What kind should I look for and how is it mounted in the guitar?
