Location: Zion, Illinois | Someday I'm getting back into my restoration of a broken Elite I picked up on E-Bay.
The top looked as if it had been stepped on, cracked in 3 places. I fixed the cracks pretty well, but I had problems trying to refinish the top. It was my first attempt at fixing a guitar and I really didn't know what I was doing. The good news is that at least the guitar is play-able now.
I'm going to get back and give the top another try. Any suggestions how to add a finish to the top are welcome.
My main question is, how can i remove those "leaves" by the sound hole??? It originally covered them with newspaper, but the results really sucked.
Any ideas?????

Location: The Shop | you have a better chance of picking up toothpicks with your rear end than getting those epaulets off! Those things are on there good.The way we get them off at the factory is to sand them off with a huge stroke sander an than put new ones on.I really dont have any other ideas! Maybe somebody else will.Good luck! :D |

Location: Zion, Illinois | Maybe I should just strip the finish and try some sort of oil. I did that with a dulcimer once and it turned out pretty good.

| Don’t laugh but you could go to home depot and get a can of that crinkle spray pant in black and gray. Spray the top gray and black or black and gray burst then paint the leaves the contrasting color. Paint the headstock, get a new decal from ovation and slap it on then spray the whole thing with a satin clear coat. Then tell everyone it’s a new prototype Elite T2.
Or ask Ovation how much they would charge to through it in their spray booth they next time they had to paint an Elite T if you did all the prep work.

Location: Scotland | Before you can refinish the top you'll need to get it down to bare wood. The difficult part may be getting the original finish off. Polyester laquers are tough & most of the readily available sovlents wont work. You may have to scrape & sand the original finish. |

Location: Zion, Illinois | Its beginning to look like I should have sent it back to Ovation and had them do all the work for $450. Even it I get the top looking good, I still have a problem with the truss rod. I think it is broken or something.
Oh well. It was fun trying.
