I recently got a really great deal on a celebrity at a pawn shop. $210 w/OHSC....just a few minutes ago, I plugged it in. Well...the Low E and the A don't have much voice at all. The rest of the strings have that Ovation thunder we all know and love. What could be wrong, and how do I fix it?

Thanks,
bd

maybe the pickup is bad but change strings first and see if that helps

I kinda figured the pickup as the strings are fairly new, they have a lot of brilliance left. The guy must have tried new strings before he sold the thing. How much is the pickup gonna run me, and can I do it myself?

Might be just the wayit is. My 1711 Balladeer sounds crisp and clear, but it doesn't have much lower end sound, mostly highs.

I switched to medium grade strings, and that has helped give her a little more punch, but still not booming.

This is a very pronounced difference. I maxed the low eq and still just barely audible over the natural acoustic sound. I would like to fix it soon because I have the time right now and I know I won't later.

I wish you luck with it, but this is where my expertise bows out to others on the board! Good Luck bd!

Thanks Norseman,
I have been reading some of the other posts and noticed that Photogazer is somewhere in Virginia, maybe I can enlist his expertise.

Thanks again,
bd

if it is the pickup the swap is relatively painless

Al,
I am going to assume it is the pickup. Can you hook me up with one?

Thanks,
bd

Hhave you checked the saddle? Sometimes the saddle isn't touching on the thinline strip under certain strings which makes them not ring out like the rest.Maybe just a little sanding of the bottom of the saddle.Of course this varies with the style of piezo pickup you have in that model.

On the thinline pickup the piezos & saddle are a integral unit, so you can't just sand the bottom of the saddle. The most likely culprit is that the bottom of the saddle slot is uneven. Re-routing it pefectly flat is pretty easy if you have the tools and skill.
