Hello everyone. One of the many things I really like about Ovation guitars is the pinless bridge design. I never knew why so many companies insist on using those darn pins in the bridge. The Ovation bridge makes string changes much easier. Does Ovation have a patent on this bridge design? Doe any other acoustic guitar company use this type of bridge? Thanks Ovation for using the pinless bridge. Just one of the many things I like about Ovation guitars...Paul Hebert

The main benefit of the pinless bridge is the scope it allows for experimentation with bracing patterns, though it's really only Ovation who've gone down that route. Takamine, Lowden, Harmony & quite a few others have used pinless bridges with conventional X-bracing

Breedlove has used pinless bridges on their guitars with a unique "truss" system that removed stress on the top of the guitar. If I remember right this system allowed 12-string guitars to be tuned to concert pitch without adverse affects to the guitar.

This is the JLD bridge truss, originally intended as a fix for bellied tops. It certainly works as a fix, the logic behind installing the system in a new guitar evades me, a flat top guitar is supposed to be stressed, it's getting the balance between optimum and destructive stress that takes the skill. I've played several Breedlove instruments, they're very well made, though I don't care for their look. I find they sound about as inspiring as the average Taylor.
12 string guitars built for standard tuning are hardly revolutionary, Guild did it way back and all Ovation 12's are designed for concert pitch and have been since their introduction in the 60's

ejay,
what model do you have that has pins? As far as I can recall there were very few ever made with pins and they were all specials.
