Hello everyone. I was looking at my 12 strings bridge, and this question came to me. How are acoustic guitar bridges mounted? Are they just glued down on the spruce top? Are there some kind of pegs that are under the bridge. With all that string pull, those 12 string bridges sure hold on well. Also, what type of adhesive is used to mount the bridges.....Paul Hebert

The underside of the bridge has a very slight rebate, so all the glue doesn't get squeezed out when they're clamped. The bridges with Pearl or white dot inlays are reinforced with bolts, the inlays cover the bolt heads.

That's right...except for on those shallow bowls, on those peices of garbage, they just stick a wad of chewing tobacco in there, and clamp her down with some cat gut.

 :D JUST KIDDING!!! :D

Al, I'm imposing a one-day ban from the board for my inappropriate behavior!

Have a good weekend all.

Al, that binary resin is what you had mentioned in an earlier post about the smell of my 12 string. Is that the main adhesive used in Ovation guitars?....Paul Hebert

Hole in bridge.
Hole in top.
Bolt goes through both holes.
Nut gets tightened up inside guitar.
Bolt head is countersunk into bridge.
Bolt head is covered by little MOTS
dot that is fitted into the hole
in the bridge.

voila'!! (or walla as Norsey says ;) )

Cliff, would please go over that again. I can't seem to grasp it. Are the nuts on the inside or the outside? ;) What do bolts have to do with apple juice anyway?

I once became the victim of various veteran board members scorn when I mentioned that traditionally guitar makers use heat sensitive glues so repairs can be made easily. It seems that part of Ovation's lurch into the future has to do with innovative gluing techniques involving GASP! epoxies. They have benefitted from the almost indestructive qualities of epoxies where wood meets wood and wood meets plastic.

Willard, I believe our learned colleague is referring to "mother of toilet seat", not fruit squeezin's. And as modesty would dictate, the nuts are on the inside. Yer welcum.
