Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | As I mentioned earlier, I've had a hard to diagnose buz in my 1711 Balladeer. A friend pointed out that it seems to have a "dip" or valley in the neck around the 3-6 frets. I can see what he's talking about, it seems very slight, but I imagine it would cause a buz.Any ideas what a guy would do with such a problem? I've tried raising the action, but that doesn't do the trick. I've considered filing down some frets, but I imagine I can get myself in trouble real quick.
Anyone else ever experience this? The neck also has a bit of a twist in it as well. |

I'm having a hard time visualizing how a dip in the neck can cause a buzzing vibration. Is the buzz from a string buzzing against a fret or is it a structural buzz (vibration) somewhere in the guitar.

Location: Back in the Valley of the Sun Mesa Az. | It seems to cause the strings to be hitting a fret(s) further up the board. I guess I could try and pinpoint the fret(s) and shave them, but I am more curious about this little dip or valley in the neck...is this something highly unusual?
I've personally never seen such a thing before, of course, I've never seen a Custom Legend 12(in person), but I here there are plenty out there!

If you have the action set very low something like that might cause a buzz, but only if you are fretting in that area. Very few necks are perfectly flat, and small variations generally won't cause any problem. having the frets dressed will correct that but unless it is a major variation, you might find a change the next time you adjust the truss rod. Remember a perfect guitar neck has a reverse bend from the nut to about the 12th fret to allow for string vibration, it is not flat like a straight edge. There are specs for the amount of reverse bending that I think someone on an earlier post mentioned. I vaguely recall a reference to so many match book covers or some such thing from the master CWK 2.
