Hi everybody,
I just purchased a Korean Celebrity cc047 for $400.
Maybe now you will say that this is not a true Ovation git. By the way: why? I feel that quality and sound are very good...
So what's the real difference between an American made guitar and a Korean made one? and is it worthing the gap price?

Hi again and sorry for my english...

There've been numerous, LONG knock-down drag-out "discussions" on this very topic as of late.

My advice:
Wait for a nice rainy afternoon, open up a good bottle of red (or three) and use the SEARCH function under the topic "Korean".

Good Luck and WELCOME!

It would be a lot of fun to read all those old threads, but you might prefer to spend the time playing your Ovation.

Congratulations on the new guitar and welcome.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. When I was raising a family and wanted my two boys to play with me in a band, I bought instruments for them that I could afford and in the 70's they were Japanese even including my Epiphone copy of a Gibson SG Bass that had a real Gibson bridge and Schallers that a bass player had installed . (He wanted it back the day after I bought it as he wasn't happy with the P bass he traded it in on). Korean Ovations allow somebody access to a good instrument at a reasonable price. I know there are good deals on used Ovations, but most beginners are not able to pick the good ones, whereas a new Celebrity gives some feeling of safety just like a new car.

You know, Bailey's points here may be the core of why Ovation puts out the Celebrity line and makes it look so much like the USA Ovations.

.....The Korean Ovations have secret listening devices installed by North Korean infiltrators on orders from KimJung-Il. Don't play crappy music on it, because if they think that our society has deteriorated, they will ATTACK! That is only one of the little known facts I've discovered after I stopped taking my medication.....

Thanks to everyone for your kind answers. They completely fulfill my request.
And Thank you for the suggestion of a "search" thruoghout the Bulletin Board

too: I spent days reading about this subject...
Now I just would like to spend some few words on a topic: many of you complain

about the potential loss of job that this choiche (build low priced products in

a low wage country) would mean for US workers.

1) I think that the "Kaman Strategy" tends to increase the competition with competitors that build low price guitar (it's not possible to build a Guitar - even with low quality materials - in U.S. and made it avaiable for $400...), and it's not thought to steal customers to USA-made-guit market; More, the customer that can buy a Celebrity as his first guitar, probably will buy an Adamas (i.a.) when he will have the money (and the skill..) to afford one, instead of a Takamine, a Taylor etc...;

2) I think also that "Ovation Korea" profits raise the wealth both of the Korean Workers and of the "Kaman Group", eventually enlarging the Ameican P.I.L;

3) Last, I'm amazed that those protectionist issues comes exactly from the USA, the country I consider the native land of liberal ideas and free market opportunities. Time thought us that protectionism is not the way for a long term economy growth.

That's all
Thanks again!

Andrea :)

There is no denying a pro USA built bias. Guitars made in the usa are loved all over the world.
That does not mean the Korean product is a total piece of junk either. I have heard some excellent sounding and playing imported guitars.
The reason why Kaman sells imports is to make profit and well that's the American way.
The main point of contention is that these guitars should not be represented as the American line and some dealers/vendors/salesman do.
As for the job issue, the current US economy makes everyone in fear of their job and next paycheck, it is a fact of life.

Yeah Al

People have to start somewhere, and Korean made puts lots of guitars into the hands of beginners who are trying to figure out if they have any talent or ability. Some percentage will find that they do and move up to better quality instruments, and some will be so talented that their Korean axe will suit them fine when they plug it in and apply their skill. Look at the star players that use Silvertones, Kays, etc. and plug them into Kustom amps, well maybe not. Koreans worry about losing their job too and these are South Koreans, our friends. Most music is generated by talent, not brand name instruments. However, I still like the Elite T and keep your eye out for a good American 12 string.
