So, at lunchtime today I go out to one of the last remaining indy music stores for strings, when ALAS! they are OUT of my D'Addario PhosBronzies!!

What to do! What to DO!!??

I opted for Adamas 1717's (my first time buying 'em).

Now, it's my understanding that the Adamas strings are made BY D'Addario.

What's the diffy, yo?

Different core/wrap formulation?
Material?
What?

Anybody know?

Whatever it is, I'll see how they hold up by the end of tomorrow afternoon's PigRoast gig.

(I can't BELIEVE that I actually LEFT a band that played monthly gigs at a go-go bar to play pig roasts! . . . but then again, . . . remembering some of those dancers, . . . there wasn't much difference!)

Gee, y'know, sometimes I'm truly grateful for my comparatively, sheltered, existence; "wasn't much difference".....wow, the imagery is truly daunting. Speaking of lunch- OOPS, here it comes again!!!

Cliff, I've used both, actually Adamas on my Legend, and D'Addario on my Balladeer at the same time. I noticed no difference whatsoever in string sound, both sounded great. I took them off and saved them when I switched to Elixer nano-webs. I think you'll "slide" right through your greasy gig without noticing any difference.

Cliff...

Daves Sound.
Still rules for price.

I tried Adamas strings a few times and went back to D'Addario. I sweat like a pig (at a roast?)playing live, and Adamas strings just didn't hold up for me...and wouldn't hold their tuning. That's just my experience.

If I recall, on the tour they mentioned they now ship with D'Addarios instead of their own Adamas, since they sound better over time. Enough endorsement for me.

Yeah, I sweat like the proverbial pig as well!

Dave's location is diametrically opposed to my commute(s), so it's really not convenient for me.
I suppose I could ask him to just bring some home and I could swing by there and pick 'em up, but I really don't wanna inconvenience him/his family (besides, he's moving in a couple of weeks up to Fredon).

What I SHOULD DO is stop by his shop periodically and by "in bulk". (but then again, I SHOULD do a lotta' things!).
