Location: Tennessee | Eureka! I finally found a neck to replace the warped urelite one on my USA Ultra ... eBay rules! OK, so now I have a couple of questions: what is the best way for me to loosen up the glue joint where the fretboard meets the body, and what type of glue should I use when putting the replacement neck on?
Oh, final question: on the assumption I am a complete moron, any sage advice? |

Location: Scotland | ask the factory what type of glue was used originally, if it was an epoxy you'll have a job on your hands. Otherwise you should apply heat and/or steam to the end of the fingerboard and work a palette knife between it and the top. This is a difficult job to do cleanly without experience & a lot of patience. |

There are some good guitar repair books out there that can help you. They can tell you how to do a repair. If you can get on this board , you can probably find what you need. |

Location: Tennessee | Bailey, Paul ... thanks for the advice. I have been setting up my own guitars for a while now, and have pulled, replaced and setup the necks (bolt-on) on my electrics without any drama. I'm not thinking this is going to be too terribly difficult, but I will go slow and stop at the first sign of getting in over my head. If it was one of my set-necks, or something more valuable, it would go to the factory ...
Does anyone know what kind of adhesive I should use when I put the new neck on? Loctite did the trick for the peeling epaulets on another O ... would that work where the fretboard meets the soundhole?
Thanks all. |

The usual adhesive in the old days was the kind that you use with an adhesive gun, that is, a heat softened adhesive, this gives you the option of redoing the bond if you screw up. Epoxy is usually permanent and non reversible.
